Save the Date: TA3 Meeting April 26-27

The theme for our next meeting will be “Supporting Sustainable Communities Opportunities and Challenges for Community Colleges”  In Asheville, North Carolina on April 26 and 27 join experts and practitioners from the U.S. and Europe to highlight expanded roles for colleges in educating students, businesses, and communities about and for economic opportunities in renewable energy, conservation, ecotourism, and local sustainable agriculture and manufacturing. 2009 Symposium in Finland

The theme for the 2009 symposium and meeting of the Trans-Atlantic Technology & Training Alliance in Tampere, Finland was New Learning Environments and Cultural Differences.  Organized by Marjut Salminen of Tampere College hosted by the college on May 4-6, 2009, the first day included presentations on the Finnish educational system, skills to cope with cultural differences, new business incubators as learning environments, creative entrepreneurship, cross cultural understanding for international employees, and benchmark practices.  Members from seven countries were took part in the three days of professional, business, and cultural events.  TA3 members toured Tampere College and visited the Kuru Forest College, where they held their business meeting, which included a strategic planning discussion led by EUC-Syd—and also test-drove the school’s log haulers and had an evening meal at a log cottage.  The agenda and selected presentations can be downloaded here

IKASLAN

IKASLANIKASLAN is an association of 60 public vocational colleges in the Basque Country of Spain. It offers initial vocational for post-compulsory education students and continuing education for workers, the unemployed, and those threatened with unemployment. Many of the programs are modular and individually tailored to students based on labor market demand, The schools also emphasize entrepreneurship.

Ivy Tech Community College

IvyTechIvy Tech Community College, with 23 campuses across the state of Indiana, educates more than 110,000 students every year. It offers more than 150 programs and concentrations leading to degrees, certificates and certifications, and credits transfer to four-year schools throughout Indiana. Ivy Tech also offers distance learning and a special program for working adults.

Macomb Community College

MacombFutureMacomb Community College offers nearly 200 options for degrees and certificates in university transfer and career preparation programs and nearly 40 bachelor’s degree completion and master’s degree programs at its University Center, in addition to a wide variety of professional development and certification programs, “College for Kids,” and hands-on Career Academies and other pre-college programs to give young people a preview of college and career opportunities. Macomb provides learning experiences to more than 59,000 students annually, is the largest grantor of associate degrees in the State of Michigan, and consistently ranks in the top 2% nationally.

Tampere College

TampereTampere College (Tampereen ammattiopisto) is a vocational college in the upper secondary level, located in in the city of Tampere and the municipality of Kuru, Finland. Tampere College is one of the largest vocational Colleges in Finland, and has developed good partnerships and implemented valuable projects within recent years. Tampere’s five Institutes (Hervanta Institute, Kuru Institute of Forestry, Pyynikki Institute, Tampere Institute of Commerce and Tampere Institute of Health Care) educate individuals who are able to work in changing work environments in the public or private sectors or to become entrepreneurs; are open to constant development and lifelong learning to improve their skills; are internationally-minded; and have a good environmental awareness.
